To demonstrate our commitment to the Hong Kong community, we are pleased to announce that Transamerica Life Bermuda has once again made a modest donation to Food Angel in return for each of the 191 responses received from distribution partners to our annual Distributor Satisfaction Survey.
Food Angel is a Hong Kong-based food rescue and assistance programme launched in 2011 by the Bo Charity Foundation. Its mission is "WASTE NOT, HUNGER NOT." The programme rescues edible surplus food from the local food industry and turns it into well-balanced, hot meals for underprivileged people in need of food assistance.
On 6 October 2017 our employees volunteered in Food Angel's kitchen and helped to prepare well-balanced meal boxes consisting of rice, vegetables and meat. It was not easy to prepare appropriately-sized portions without wasting food whilst keeping the boxes clean. The main challenge was time pressure because the meals needed to be delivered hot.
After a full hour of hard work we managed to fill 743 boxes! As soon as we finished the packing, we went on to deliver the meal boxes to a group of elderly people in a nearby community centre. All the hard work was made worthwhile when we saw their happy faces as they ate their nutritious meals.
