We are happy to announce that Transamerica Life Bermuda has made a modest donation to Food Angel.
To demonstrate our commitment to our community, Transamerica Life Bermuda promised to make a donation to Food Angel for each survey completed by our distributor partners via our annual Distributor Satisfaction Survey.
Food Angel is a food rescue and assistance program launched in 2011 in Hong Kong by the Bo Charity Foundation – its mission is "WASTE NOT, HUNGER NOT." The program rescues edible surplus food from the local food industry and turns it into nutritious hot meals for underprivileged people in need of food assistance.
On Friday 2 September 2016 our employees volunteered in Food Angel's kitchen. After a brief donation ceremony we started to prepare meal boxes consisting of rice, vegetables and meat. It was challenging to keep up a brisk pace preparing the right-size portions without wasting food and at the same time keeping the boxes clean. The main challenge was the time pressure because all the meals need to be delivered hot.
After a full hour of hard work we managed to fill 1,006 boxes! Timing was critical because the food boxes needed to be delivered to a group of elderly in a nearby community center. It was touching to see the happy faces of the elderly when we visited them.
